BIOGRAPHY
Juan Enrique Miguéns, guitar
Juan Enrique Miguens has been described by English magazine Classical Guitar as “a guitarist with a lyrical and elegant style” on their April 2005 issue. In May 2003 he had made his successful debut in England for the Instituto Cervantes in Manchester. There he met Spanish writer Manuel Rivas, who wrote about him “Juan Enrique belongs to the School of Arts lineage from the Ancient Galician Kingdom”.
His ascending career leads him to give recitals throughout Spain and Europe, in places such as Valladolid, Santiago, Córdoba, Madrid, Rotterdam (Holland), Hannover (Germany), Lyon and Paris (France) or Leeds and Liverpool (England). Due to this outstanding concertistic activity the Cork Orchestral Society in Ireland invites him to be part of its Capital of Culture 2005 season, representing Spain at Cork’s Lecture Theatre.
Juan Enrique Miguéns studied at the Conservatorio de Vigo, the city where he was born. Later on, he developed his career in Madrid at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música, where he studied with professor José Luis Rodrigo and the ancient music specialist José Miguel Moreno. He also attended several courses and masterclasses with maestros such as José Tomás or David Russell. Since 1995 Juan Enrique Miguéns is a guitar professor at Conservatorio Profesional de Música in Ourense (Spain).
REVIEWS
“ lyrical style ... a refined account ... an impressive start to 2005
at the Instituto Cervantes.“
Classical Guitar Magazine - England
‘Juan Enrique belongs to the School of Arts lineage from the Ancient
Galician Kingdom, an unfinished stave...’
Manuel Rivas, Manchester - England
‘An amiable young Spaniard making his debut on British soil, Juan Enrique
Miguéns offered an all Spanish programme of the type that is customary
but not compulsory at the IC.’
‘Two Mazurkas and two Waltzes by Tárrega are usually guaranteed not to
set the the pulse racing, and yet Miguéns made them sound like a million
dollars tonight. They even overshadowed Turina´s thrusting Ráfaga which,
complete with an impressive thumb-and-finger rasgueado, should have knocked
Sueño and its companions for six, but somehow didn´t this time.’ ‘So ended
an enthusiastically-received innings in which syrupy old Tárrega was undisputed
man of the match.’
Paul Fowles, Classical Guitar Magazine - England
‘he bewitched the audience with his gentle performance and delightful
phrasing.’
Patricia Remis, Crónica 16, León - Spain
‘excellent recital...brilliant performance.’
